All leading universities understand the importance of having their lecture theatres upgraded frequently so that they can operate to the highest standard to provide a positive learning experience for students. Over the summer holidays, CHW Consulting worked with the University of Melbourne to provide theatre av upgrades to several of their theatres across the Parkville campus. As the project lead, CHW Consulting conducted audits of the existing systems and managed the replacement of ageing AV systems with up-to-date new technology.

The upgraded theatres included:

  • Sunderland Theatre
  • Wright Theatre
  • Theatre Q.227, Q.219 & Q.230 at Kwong Lee Dow Building.

As a result of the theatre AV upgrades, lecturers now have access to an improved presentation space, easy to use Apple iPad touch screen control interfaces, and digital device connectivity, greatly improving their ability to easily use the system and communicate to students. The control system is now interfaced to a centralised resource management system to enable remote support and help desk facilities. The theatres are now also able to facilitate web-conferencing to support long distance education. To accommodate large class sizes, several of the theatres feature a theatre link functionality which enables live video and audio to be played simultaneously in another theatre, allowing students to participate in the same lecture from a different location.

To achieve the strict timeline, all works were carefully coordinated and completed prior to the new semester commencing. The upgrades reflect a standard for the University’s teaching spaces where technology meets the modern needs of both faculty & students.
